Our
Personal Injury Lawyers will investigate claims from across the entire United States for workers injured by defective 3M 8710 Dust Masks. For nearly 30 years, 3M has marketed this quarter-ounce mask as a "lifesaver". However, a former government official has claimed that testing was so deficient that workers might have well be called "guinea pigs".
Our
Personal Injury Attorneys believe there are multiple defects with the mask, including its ability to filter smaller particles and also its inability to conform to the face. One of our biggest concerns of the mask is that workers may
develop black lung disease or
silicosis. This is an often fatal disease of the lung caused by breathing silica dust and asbestos.
A prior government employee who oversaw the 8710's approval testified under oath that NIOSH ran silica tests on 25 masks three years after they hit the market. They found that when the masks loaded up with dust, they did not meet the resistance threshold. Additional information suggests that 3M's own quality control tests showed the masks overwhelmingly failed its own quality control tests in 1977 - 1979. 3M continued to sell the masks until 1998.
