Stomach Drug Reglan® Linked to Severe Movement Disorder

Reglan® is a drug used to treat a variety of symptoms including heartburn, nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite in some patients.

Reglan's chemical ingredient is metoclopramide. Reglan/metoclopramide is also prescribed to treat migraine headaches; alleviate nausea in pregnant mothers; stimulate milk production in nursing mothers; and to treat nausea, heartburn, vomiting, and loss of appetite in infants and children. Reglan is not approved for any of these uses, however.

Reglan and Tardive Dyskinesia

Reglan has been linked to a severe movement disorder known as tardive dyskinesia, or TD. The condition is life-altering and often incurable. People with tardive dyskinesia suffer from uncontrollable movements that can affect any part of the body. Reglan tardive dyskinesia is often extremely embarrassing for the affected individual.

Reglan tardive dyskinesia symptoms include involuntary:

·      grimacing

·      rapid eye blinking

·      repetitive twisting movements of the body

·      smacking of the lips

·      sticking the tongue in and out

·      swaying movements of the trunk or hips

If you or someone you know took Reglan and is suffering from any of these side effects, contact a Reglan lawyer at our firm for a free and confidential case evaluation to learn how we may be able to help you.

Food and Drug Administration Requires Reglan "Black Box" Warning

The Food and Drug Administration required Reglan to have the strongest warning possible on the drug's labeling, cautioning users of the risk of developing tardive dyskinesia. The black box warning states, "Chronic treatment with metoclopramide can cause tardive dyskinesia, a serious movement disorder that is often irreversible. The risk of developing tardive dyskinesia increases with the duration of treatment and the total cumulative dose. The elderly, especially elderly women, are most likely to develop this condition."

Tardive dyskinesia is a life changing condition. At our law firm, we believe people who take drugs like Reglan to treat heartburn, nausea, or vomiting should never have to cope with a condition like TD.

Free and Confidential Case Evaluation with a Reglan Lawyer

Our Reglan lawyers are actively investigating cases of people who took Reglan and suffered the movement disorder tardive dyskinesia. If you or someone you love took Reglan and was diagnosed with TD, contact a Reglan lawyer at our law firm today. We want to help.
